The heroic arachnid is back in this live-action sequel directed by Sam Raimi and written by Michael Chabon. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is going through a major identity crisis. I don't like it all that much because "Peter parker" looked like his was always tierd or on drugs. He looks like he was on drugs and then someone took them away from him.So his voice and he's eyes resemble drugs.

An improvement over the first film in almost every way (except Kirsten Dunst's hair is no longer fiery red anymore), Spider-Man 2 touches upon the idea that Peter Parker can only do so much despite having superpowers. It's a relatable thing to touch upon, since I could imagine the frustration of juggling school, work, and a social life while ridding crime in all of New York with a secret identity. What an impossible feat to accomplish.

I think what makes this second movie better than the first is that Doc Ock is such a formidable villain. It's almost like taking on five bad guys when fighting him, and he actually looks better than he does in the comics. The emotional buildup as Peter comes to terms with himself to take on Doc Ock is handled so well, that it makes the action scenes, especially that high-octane train scene, more memorable and worthy of what it is adapting. Its scenes like that one which make Spider-Man 2 a really good movie that captures the essence of the comic enough to be very enjoyable.   [ show more ]

I went to the midnight show last night and was completely blown away !! I am 30 years old and had begun reading the Amazing Spider-Man back when I was 11 and leaving the theater last night, I felt like I was a kid again- I was amazed, I was in awe, I really felt... satisfied.

Every scene crackled. There was an energy, there was an effort put into every moment of the movie. No scene went on too long, no plot holes fell through. It was the comic, come alive.

Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire did a great job of making Peter Parker sympathetic, you feel for him, you wince with him, he is the boy, becoming a man, and you watch it, and you keep watching it.

Even as a long-time fan who knew where some of the story lines were going- with MJ, with Harry Osborne- to see HOW the movie chose to play out these stories, provided great surprises for me, I almost wished I didn't know... I can't wait to see the reactions of my friends who haven't followed the Spider-man comics, the twist of the story and the hints at what is to come...   [ show more ]
