A showpiece for Will Smith and his son. Despite that, I felt that it had a good message about hard work and opportunity.
In my favorite scene of the film, I loved that line Smith says to his kid: "You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. Period. Don't ever let someone tell you you can't do something. Not even me."
Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but I was expecting more. One of my main gripes was how the music just seemed to get in the way of the film and make a scene more whimsical that it really was. When I watched the previews, I thought it was going to be a dark, gut-wrenching film without a happy ending. I thought Will Smith was going to eat his son just so he could live another day in the bathroom or something twisted like that. (That would have been awesome). [ show more ]
I think it would have been better that way, but this movie was based on an inspirational book, which seems like it was accurately adapted (judging by how happy Chris Gardner seemed in the bonus materials), so they couldn't fuck with that. I wasn't familiar with Gardner's book, so I can't tell for sure if fans of the novel would also enjoy this movie. This is a good, inspirational movie. [ show less ]
